Imagine you're thirty-two, married with two little children, and you find out you're carrying a deadly cancer gene. That was me in 2005, when I when I discovered the BRAC1 gene, which meant I had an 85% chance of developing breast cancer and a 50% chance of developing ovarian cancer. I had two options - wait for the big bad cancer wolf or have radical preventative surgery. Over the following year, I had a double mastectomy and both ovaries removed, which reduced my cancer risk to 5%. Despite this, cancer struck anyway. I've now battled and slayed cancer six times. TALK TO THE HEADSCARF is my story of how I lived, laughed and overcame some of the toughest times in my life. If you know someone affected by cancer, or if you are a fellow 'cancer club member', I know you are scared. I was too. But you are not alone. I am still here. I am living proof that, against the odds, life can and does carry on. The score so far is - Cancer O: Emma 6. And if my cancer returns, I will keep on crusading.
Meredith Lee is one of the most successful women in television. She has a daytime show that has an audience of millions. She seems to have it all. But behind the tirelessly successful facade lies the story of a woman who nearly lost everything. This is the story of a woman who could not keep love in her life. The love of neither her father nor her mother. Who lost the love of her life the first time around, then lost the love of her own child. She could not even find love in herself. This is a story about women, about their sugar and spice, about the deep natural instincts that drive women through whatever society is trying to pin on them at the time. It is also about love, where to look for it and how to hold on to it when it is found.

In 2006 over 60% of medical graduates in the UK were female, and the number of women going to medical school as 'mature students' is steadily increasing. Most of these women will, at some point, choose to have a baby, but the question always asked is 'How?' Not, of course, from a biological perspective, as doctors are all scientists at heart; but how do to fit it in with a medical career? Along with the problem of finding time to actually have a baby, and copingas a pregnant doctor, there is the problem of finding information when it is most needed. This book addresses this problem, bringing a wealth of information together in one easy-to-use resource. Written by a new mother, who has faced the joys and frustrations of combining medicine and being a mother, this book is a "one stop shop" for all new mothers and mothers to be.
